Nimes is a town in the South East of France, the administrative centre of the department of le Gard, itself within the Region of Languedoc Roussillon.  Situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains of the Cévennes the town sees a significant influx of visitors in the summer months, coming to visit the monuments and to take part in the numerous fetes and festivals

Situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains of the Cévennes the town sees a significant influx of visitors in the summer months, coming to visit the monuments and to take part in the numerous fetes and festivals.  Nimes has retained some exceptional monuments including the Roman Amphitheatre, the « Maison Carré », a small Roman temple , la Tour Magne and the beautiful gardens known as « les jardins de la fontaine ».  This rich antique heritage has led to Nimes being known as «  French Rome ».and its history, culture and architecture has earned for the town the label « Ville d’Art et d’Histoire ».
