LE PONT DU GARD :
A day out with the family at the PONT DU GARD
The Pont du Gard, a playground of 165 hectares for families and an exhibition of superb quality. History, heritage, nature and culture all combine to ensure an unforgettable visit for young and old.
49 Metres in height the Pont du Gard is the major element of the aqueduct of Nimes.
It is the highest aqueduct of the Roman world, remarkably conserved and consisting of 3 levels of arches, 6 at the lowest level, 11 on the level above and 47 arches at the highest level.
The construction of the Pont du Gard was the major construction challenge of the aqueduct, involving possibly a million men over a period of three to five years.
In June, against the magnificent background of the Pont du Gard a brilliant and spectacular display of lights, music and fire will take your breath away. It is known as Les Féeries du Pont – the enchanted world of the Pont du Gard. All the magic of the Roman monument is sublimated by these artists, who illuminate the most treasured and admired buildings of the world, including the Eiffel Tower, the Chateau at Versailles, Sydney Harbour and the highest building in the world at Dubai.
And on the way back, to the delight of young and old, you can visit the HARIBO sweet museum at UZES
